Shoutarou is an oni from the era of Japanese Westernization. He owns and manages an antiquarian bookshop. He took over after his only friend, the old owner, passed away from old age. Shoutarou is older than he looks, much older. A few centuries, at the very least.

He's got something akin to a master, an oni who looks like a little boy, called Shiro. Shiro is pretty blood thirsty and berates Shoutarou for his liking of humans. The "boy" acts how he looks around humans, so he does not arouse suspicion.

He's got superior regeneration abilities, and, for example arms and legs that gets cut off heals, plus he's resistent to poison. Not that it doesn't effect him, but he recuperates pretty quickly. He would be able to heal faster if he ate human flesh, but he refuses to. Currently, for unknown reasons, but he says he prefers the human made food and human written books over human flesh. He has a good sense of smell (but not as good as his master), he can shape shift just a little bit (eyes changing, horns & claws growing, facial markins) and is both very fast and agile. He always has canines, but they aren't as visible when he's in human guise.

He has a tendency to fall asleep among his many books, and since he piles them high around himself, he often makes them topple over and gets buried under them. It often results in brouses or scrapes or paper cuts. He also gains wounds from fighting other oni, when he tries to protect humans from them.

This particular oni is a complete nerd for books, he simply loves to read. He is calm and collected, and a little awkward. He doesn't have very many friends (one is his master, one is a skeleton, and one tried to kill him) but he at least knows how to be polite. He's nice and kind, and tends to be well-liked. He's helpful (at least he wants to be) and he's subdued. He doesn't really get angry. He is, however, pretty protective, and will get lethally (well) wounded protecting people.
